The National Institute of Standards and Technology, Engineering Laboratory, Intelligent Systems Division anticipates seeking an engineering professional to contribute to research in sensing, monitoring and control for manufacturing production systems. The candidate will support the long-term mission of advancing smart manufacturing in the U.S. by enabling robust sensing, diagnostics, prognostics, health management, and control across the equipment, work-cell, line, and factory levels. Key areas of focus are expected to include advanced sensing and monitoring, machine learning, interoperability, and data management and analysis. The position will involve the development, verification, and validation of reference datasets, implementations, and architectures that support the two-way flow of data and information across heterogeneous systems for control. The candidate will be expected to contribute to high-impact standards development; journal-quality research publications; and modeling, simulation, and physical test-bed development. The candidate should also possess outstanding written and oral communication skills as well as software and/or programming experience, be able to collaborate as a member of a team, and desire to improve U.S. manufacturing through his/her work.
