NASA is actively involved in researching and developing validated tools, technologies, and techniques for automated detection, diagnosis and prognosis that enable mitigation of adverse events during flight for current and next generation aerospace systems. Adverse events include those that arise from system, subsystem, or component faults or failures due to damage, degradation, or environmental hazards that occur during flight. One focus of NASA is the investigation of diagnostic and prognostic algorithms for aerospace systems, such as the national airspace system (NAS) and Unmanned Aerial Systems (UAS), as well as methods for turning health management information into actionable decisions.

We are looking for a postdoctoral researcher to drive this research forward.

* Participate in research on real-time assessment and modeling of safety for UAS and NAS; the quantification, and management of various sources of uncertainty that affect UAS operations; developing methodologies for enhanced decision-making capabilities to assure resilient operations in the presence of adverse events.
* In the short term, the candidate will be expected to research safety metrics for UAS and the modeling of safety metric degradation with time.
* In the long term, the candidate will also be expected to be involved with general prognostics research.
* Mature and advance diagnostics, prognostics, and health management technologies; working on decision making and autonomy;
* Lead own body of research exploring new areas of prognostics and health management.

Position Requirements:

* Independence and the ability to take their own research path and take ownership of projects
* Experience with prognostics and health management, and uncertainty management
* Publishing and paper writing skills
* Excellent communication skills and the ability to interact and gel with the team effectively is also an important requirement
* This position requires someone who is a motivated self-starter, capable of working independently and as part of an integrated team
* Languages: MATLAB, C++, Python
* PhD in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, or other related fields
* Familiarity with: Python, R, proposal writing and development
